The gorgeous Barrett MRAD is a fine example of the high quality rifle for which Barrett has become known. I had the pleasure of chatting a bit with Angela Barrett as she introduced me to this long range beauty.
The MRAD is a multiple caliber platform, which allows users to switch between .308 Win, .300 Win Mag, or .338 Lapua within a few minutes. The stock locks into place so that it performs as a fixed stock, which happens to be adjustable for cheekweld and length of pull. But at the push of a button, it releases to fold toward the bolt side of the rifle. The idea behind this feature is that it makes the rifle easier for transport without adding to its width.
This work of shooting iron art does cost a pretty penny, but six grand will get you the rifle with all the goodies: match grade trigger, full-length 1913 Picatanny upper rail (with 30 MOA taper) and partial quad rails, with space for more, and ambi mag release (the safety is also configurable for right or left handed shooters). Although the MRAD hit the market in the summer of 2011, Barrett was happy to announce during SHOT Show 2013 that it is now available in black.
