Remington Arms recently waded back into the pistol market with their announcement of two new polymer pistols, available in four different varieties. The newly announced RP9 is chambered in the worlds most popular caliber the 9x19mm, and the RP45 will be chambered in .45 ACP. It was announced that both pistols will be available in 10 round capacity configurations for markets with hi capacity magazine restrictions. Consumers in states without such restrictions will be able to the the RP9 with 18+ 1 round magazines and the RP45 will be available with 15+1 magazines.
The exact specifications of both pistols are listed in the chart below, you can tell there seems to be a lot of similarities between both models such as same trigger pull weight, and overall dimensions. The only thing that stands out as different aside from the caliber is the rifling on the barrels. The RP9 features a 1:10 twist and the RP45 features a 1:16, Remington has not yet announced the suggested retail price of either of their new pistols. The announcement of the pistols coincided with the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) annual convention this week.
We can only hope that Remington learned from is disastrous release and total recall of the ill fated Remington R51 pistols from 2014. In that instance it took Remington over two years to fully replace the defective pistols purchased by consumers. I hope to be able to talk to Remington at SHOT Show 2017 about their new pistols and hopefully they will be available for us to shoot at Industry Day at the Range, an invitation only range session held the day before SHOT Show 2017 opens. I promise if we get to shoot one we will have video for you and put it on the site.
