Colt recently announced the release of a new M4 based rifle the Combat Unit Carbine. This new carbine from Colt uses a mid length gas systems instead of the more traditional carbine or full length rifle gas system. The carbine was developed in a joint effort with renowned weapons trainers Ken Hackathorn, Mike Pannone and Daryl Holland.
The Carbine also features the Magpul SL buttstock, and pistol grip a low profile gas block and a rail systems featuring Magpul’s M-Lok system. This will be matched with a 14.5″ long barrel with welded flash hider to a total overall length of 16.1″. The released specifications show the rifle barrel will have a 1:7 twist and be made of 4150CMV steel and have a Manganese Phosphate protective finish . The total overall rifle length is expected to be  33-36.5″ and weight 6.47lbs empty. The suggested retail price of the rifle will be $1299 and will be sold threw TALO Distributors. It will be interesting to see how this fits into the already saturated AR-15 market.
We have reached out to Colt to see if we can try to perform some sort of test and evaluation period on this rifle.
