Adidas TERREX AX2R Trail Running Shoe | First Impression

May 8, 2017 by Richard Moore 1 Comment

Adidas TERREX AX2R Trail Running Shoe | First Impression

The Adidas TERREX AX2R, are built for speed and rough terrain. Adidas outdoor has grown in the trail running category. Over the past few years, many special operation units have adopted this style of show to help them complete their missions. The AX2R will keep you stable and comfortable no matter what your daily challenge is today. The AX2R comes in two materials GORE-TEX and without GORE-TEX. They come in a multitude of colors and use Adidas’ TRAXION optimal lug pattern designed for good traction.

I chose the Brown/Black/Night Brown non-GORE-TEX® option for summer running and found them to be lacking in many areas. If you are someone who is used to Salomon type fitting shoes with that particular Salomon heel mold, then these shoes are not for you. In my opinion, I found the heel to be a sloppy fit, the cushion not as stable as described, and due to the rubber the hardness of the soles and the rubber they are made from they get slippery faster on some surfaces due to the hardness, so they are not good for many indoor activities or trying to fight on any kind of tile surfaces (unless you are a good hockey player). The tension and support on either side just didn’t get to the level of what many trail or street running shoes can provide.

Additionally, if you use these shoes for Rucking, forced marches, etc., I found them to be painful at the end of ten miles with 50 lbs pack, due to the lack of support, the sloppy heel, and stability of the shoe. I am sure that there are some folks with a different foot/heel design that will find these to be comfortable and useful in some situations, but for me, it is back to try to find the right trail running shoe that can be used in combination of rucking and worn on a variety of surfaces without losing traction.
