The Vertx EDC Gamut | A Low Profile Backpack

November 19, 2017 by Richard Moore 6 Comments

The Vertx EDC Gamut | Low Vis Packs

If you have been reading the Loadout Room’s mission items, you might have noticed a theme of late, some call it being the grey man, some call it low profile operations, non-permissive, or it is just a way of life by blending into the environment. If you travel to NY City or any major metropolitan these days and ride the public transportation you will notice a variety of packs. Some people like the messenger style while others use whatever backpack styles their company provided to them with the company’s logo (not a good idea traveling abroad) embroidered on it. Then there are those that have the military-style laptop and backpacks with MOLLE webbing all over, with carabiners attached every 3 slots and some moto patch. Don’t get me wrong these bags are strong, proven and will last longer than most, but they make you stand out as either as military, prior military, or some apocalyptic survivalist. I have seen a few get more than a once over with the TSA folks and eyes are always on you when you are in a foreign country. So what do you do when you need a pack that holds all the stuff you need including a blowout kit, carabiners, laptop and other mission gear?

The Vertx EDC Gamut | Low Vis Packs

The Vertx EDC Gamut backpack is built with low profile objectives in mind. The EDC Gamut (28 liters) is bigger than the EDC Commuter Sling (23 liters) and the EDC Ready Pack (25 liters), but smaller than the EDC Gamut plus (35 liters). The EDC Gamut delivers top-of-the-line features in a compact design. Built to carry a full load and then some, this feature-rich bag includes all the necessary elements found in a standard everyday carry pack plus game-changing innovative functionality for the prepared professional. This bag can accommodate a 5.11 COVRT small Insert stuffed with an NIJ III ballistic soft plate. The insert can then be used for various missions or to keep all your electronics stowed for easy access by adding some Maxpedition fatty and chubby pouches.

The front folding area contains the MOLLE webbings for concealing your blowout kit, ‘biners, etc. while maintain a very clean and non-hostile look. The internal pocket holds up to a 15” laptop. The entire inside is velcro so you can use the Tactigami products or come up with some configurations on your own. You can also use this pack for GoRuck events and other outdoor load bearing activities and it has an internal hydration hanger with accessibility holes for the tube. Straps are well padded with quick-release buckles, waist and chest straps and external spandex like pockets that can hold additional water bottles.

If you are inclined to carry your firearm off body due to the environment, you are in luck. The Tactigami holster and mag pouch options are unlimited to support your pistol of choice, and the quick access to the carry area is exceptional. Additionally, if you have added ballistic plates it is useful as an active shooter shield or giving you a moment of opportunity to advance toward the gun fight.
