In an exclusive sneak peek for KnifeNews readers, Cold Steel has revealed the new Andrew Demko-designed Golden Eye, which will be included in the company’s 2017 catalog. Although the company hasn’t disclosed the final specifications, the all-purpose EDC will feature a never before seen opening mechanism that combines a hole cut out and thumb ramp. Cold Steel tells us the Golden Eye was designed to be a light, slim, and attractive knife that can be carried all day, every day.
The hole cut out fitted with the new brass “HTR™ thumb ramp” is where the Golden Eye gets its name. According to Cold Steel, the new mechanism will offer smooth and easy ambidextrous deployment. A slender, reversible clip presents a tip-up carry and is colorized to match the new thumb ramp. The Golden Eye will also feature Cold Steel’s signature Tri-Ad lock.
In 2016, Cold Steel began offering more color variety beyond black on their handles, and the Golden Eye continues the trend with its dark green G-10 scales. “Their rich forest green beautifully compliments the steel and brass colors of the blade,” they say. The ergonomics offer pronounced finger grooves, a change from recent releases like the award-winning Pro-Lite and Swift assisted-opening folder, which have more neutral grips.
