Project Appleseed is a volunteer effort by the Revolutionary War Veterans’ Association to spread knowledge about early American heritage while teaching rifle marksmanship skills that can be used today. Some of the skills focused taught at Appleseed events are, learning natural point of aim, terminology associated with distance shooting (minutes, clicks, minutes), how to shoot using a sling for support, and establishing solid shooting positions, whether standing, kneeling, or prone.
Appleseed events are held at hundreds of locations across the US, and they are open to people of all ages and backgrounds. Training at Appleseed is a bargain, prices are varied by age but much lower than typical commercial training courses.
Sometimes, it is easier and less intimidating for women to learn about the shooting sports from other women. Appleseed is able to address that preference through their Lady Seed program. Lady Seed events teach the same skills and American history as the regular Appleseed events, but it is taught by women for women. Colleene Barnett, owner and firearms instructor of Keeping the Piece had ringing praise for the Appleseed training events, especially Lady Seed. “[Appleseed] is an awesome combination of history from a different perspective [and] gaining marksmanship on a rifle.”
With training available at so many locations and at a low cost, the Appleseed Project presents an affordable manner for the whole family to learn more about the beginnings of the United States in a unique way, and to have fun sending some rounds downrange.
