Pic Of The Day, Sniper Competition in Denmark

July 9, 2024 by Fred Rowlands Leave a Comment

One of the SOFREP family, my Grandson Iahn, just came back from the International Sniper Competition in Borris, Ringkobing, Denmark.  The competition was extreme and many of the exercises were based directly on lessons learned and operations conducted on the front lines of the war in Ukraine.

I spoke with Iahn concerning the competition and the different exercises involved in the multi-day event.  His comments mirror what we at SOFREP have been reading about and seeing in Military trends, the war in Ukraine, and sniper tactics and operations.

Firstly, drones.  Hiding from drones, using Intel from drones to plan your movements, and then using real-time Intel from drones during the exercise.

Movement Between Target Areas is a Major Component

Secondly tactics, you have to think quickly, move quickly, shoot accurately quickly, and then move to the next target area often in stealth all within a limited time.

And of course, be proficient with all your weapons.

Between Rifle Targets, a Graded Pistol Target in This Exercise

What Iahn likes is meeting and working with other teams from other countries and the US including a group from Seal Team 8 who were in between operations.  A competition like this is also the best training you can get, as many of the exercises are directly from todays battlefield.  Even with no bullets flying back at you the time factor, competitive spirit, and pride seem to force people to perform and learn to the best of their ability.

Every Exercise is Graded and Debriefed

To much fun, Garfield out.
