Hults Bruk Introduces Sarek Splitting Axe

Hults Bruk Introduces Sarek Splitting Axe

Åby, Sweden – (Dec. 5th, 2018) – Hults Bruk, Sweden’s largest and oldest axe manufacturer, is proud to introduce the Sarek Splitting Axe, a premium axe specifically designed for splitting wood. Available at specialty retailers throughout North America, the Sarek fills the gap between a felling axe and splitting maul.

Purpose built for splitting, the Sarek fosters the fast, athletic swings of a lightweight axe with the power and splitting action of a maul. The secret behind the design is a time-tested, hundred-year-old Swedish splitting pattern with narrow cheeks and a straight blade that bites deeply into wood. Along the cheeks of the axe is a pronounced metal spine that reduces friction, while providing additional wedging action that cracks wood open with explosive power.

With the rising popularity of wood-burning stoves and outdoor fireplaces, many homeowners are splitting their own firewood. In North America, mauls are a common tool for splitting wood. Weighing between 6-8 lbs., mauls are heavy to swing repeatedly and can produce a lot of shock, which may lead to fatigue. The other common tool is a felling axe, best suited for chopping. The lighter weight axe is easy to swing but the standard axe head shape often gets stuck when splitting wood.

“The Sarek axe was designed with the sole purpose to split wood,” says Matt Huff with Sport Hansa, the brand’s exclusive North American importer and distributor. “It’s not the largest splitting axe, but what it lacks in size it makes up in efficiency thanks to the proven Scandinavian design.”

As part of Hults Bruk’s premium line of axes the Sarek boasts a 3.5-pound, expertly hand-forged Swedish steel axe head left blackened by the fire and sharpened to a razor’s edge. The axe head is secured to a 30-inch long, straight shaped handle made from solid American hickory that provides maximum speed and control, with less shock impact than a fiberglass handle.

Sarek Axe Product Specifications:

  • Expertly hand forged Swedish steel, hardened to 56-59 HRC
  • Axe head weight: 3.5-pounds
  • Total weight: 4.5-pounds
  • Handle: straight, solid American hickory

  • MSRP $149
