99 bucks for a rimfire suppressor | The SOS-22

September 17, 2017 by Garand Thumb 1 Comment

99 bucks for a rimfire suppressor. The SOS-22

A rimfire suppressor for 99 bucks? That’s the good news coming from Rebel Silencers with their new SOS-22 suppressor. Rated for .22 LR, .22 Mag and 17 HMR this little silencer offers some intriguing specs.

99 bucks for a rimfire suppressor. The SOS-22

Weight. 3.2 Ounces : That’s incredibly light and due in large part to the lack of a sleeve and a ridiculous lack of baffles.

Baffles: Only three baffles that are detachable from one another allows for easy cleaning and easy replacement if one were to be damaged. At the time of this writing a replacement baffle costs 20 bucks. The baffle closest to the muzzle is the serialized portion and is least likely to have a strike. Hence if you do have a strike it’s likely to be on the non serialized portion which can be easily replaced without having to have a new suppressor sent to you, and you playing the NFA waiting game for 6 months plus.

Sound: With a decibel rating of 39-41 decibels it would seem that it performs on par with many of the more popular rimfire suppressors on the market today. Which is interesting given the lack of baffles. However science and specifically gas flow simulation seems to have prevailed and the good gentlemen at Rebel Silencers have made it work. And work well.
Aluminum: The can is made from 7075-T6 which retains its shape up to 600 degrees F. According to their website this is adequate for most shooters sans those running these cans full auto mag after mag.
What matters to me most when it comes to a rimfire suppressor is sound reduction, serviceability, and weight. The SOS-22 seems to get each of these correct. Rebel Silencers has a great little product on their hands and I know we at the Loadout Room are interested to see how it ends up performing in user’s hands in mass.

There are a lot of forward thinking ideas incorporated into this suppressor and the company seems dedicated to making simple no frills designs at a low cost to get suppressors into the hands of more people. In any case, color me impressed. The rumor mill has it that these gentlemen are going to be designing a centerfire suppressor in the near future and I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing what they have to offer.
