$200 Savings: Life Extended SCBA Tanks For Airgunners From Pyramyd Air and Digital Wave

June 14, 2018 by Mark Miller Leave a Comment

Pyramyd Air and Digital Wave Corporation have released their new line of Life Extended SCBA tanks for use with precharged pneumatic airguns. This new process provides up to 14 years usable life and a $200 savings over new carbon fiber fill sources.

Using groundbreaking technology, each expired tank is rigorously tested and restored to Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, extending each tank’s usable life, providing years of dependable service, and presenting a low-cost gateway for PCP airgunning.

So, what is a Pre-Charged Pneumatic gun? All guns require some source of energy to shoot their projectiles. Common sources are spring, co2 gas and compressed air. PCP airguns use compressed air from a reservoir on the gun.

The large volume of air available in a PCP system allows for multiple shots between fills and provide great power and accuracy. To charge a PCP, you need a tank. This is where Pyramyd comes in.

Recent DOT regulation (SP-16320) changes have led to some amazing developments for airgunners!  Life Extended tanks may be used up to an additional 15 years from their born on date. For example, a tank manufactured in the year 2001, would have previously expired in 2016. Now, this tank may be usable until 2031 once Life Extended!

If the cost of a brand new carbon fiber air cylinder has kept you from getting into PCP airguns, a Life Extended cylinder may be the answer! These carbon fiber cylinders are lightweight and capable of storing up to 4500 psi of high pressure air.  Potentially providing thousands of shots for your PCP airguns!

Of course, just like brand new carbon fiber SCBA cylinders, they must pass testing every 5 years from the Life Extension date to remain in service (Ex. A tank Life Extended in 2017, wouldn’t require a retest until 2022).  This testing can only be done by Digital Wave Corporation for Life Extended tanks and will cost about the same as a standard hydro test plus shipping and handling.

These cylinders come with a brand new 300 BAR DIN valve and fill assembly that ends in a female quick disconnect fitting, ready to fill your PCP airguns.  The valve and fill assembly feature stainless steel fittings, a 24 in. microbore hose and a rubberized hand wheel for controlled filling. The integrated pressure gauge lets you know when you’re reaching your full charge, and the bleed valve is conveniently located on the valve.

  • Air Venturi Life Extended Carbon Fiber Air Tank
  • 4,500 psi max fill pressure
  • 45 cu. ft. capacity
  • DIN 300 Fill assembly
  • 24 in. microbore hose
  • Stainless steel female quick-disconnect coupling attached to output end of hose
  • DOT Approved (SP-16320)
  • Manufactured in the year 2001
  • 22.5″ tall to top of valve
  • 5.5″ wide
  • 8.5 lbs. dry weight

Please note that the tank you receive may vary in appearance from the tank shown in the image but will be the correct size with the advertised amount of years remaining.

“This is very exciting news for PCP airgun owners and those who are thinking about getting into precharged pneumatics.” says Val Gamerman, President of Pyramyd Air. “In the last few years, PCPs have come down in price, but the cost of fill sources has remained high. This exclusive partnership means that airgunners can now purchase higher capacity carbon fiber tanks for less than the cost of smaller systems and save up to $200 on some models.”
Using end-of-life tanks collected from fire departments across the country, Digital Wave subjects each tank to a series of demanding tests that include a visual inspection, ultrasonic cleaning, and Modal Acoustic Emission (MAE) tests to reveal any compromise in the cylinder. Once passed, end-of-life cylinders are given a new expiration date and a new life in the hands of PCP airgunners.

Life Extended Air Venturi cylinders are currently available on Pyramyd Air in 30 minute (45 cu ft), 45 minute (66 cu ft) and 60 minute (88 cu ft) options that include new DIN 300 valves and fill hoses with female quick disconnect couplings. Assorted sized tanks, with up to 14 years life remaining are available for purchase immediately on PyramydAir.com. Additional resources are available on PyramydAir.com for those looking to learn more about MAE testing and Life Extended tanks.
