Merrell Fraxion Adventure Shoes

October 2, 2015 by Scott Witner Leave a Comment

Merrell Fraxion Adventure Shoes
Merrell has developed yet another shoe for just about any adventure you can throw at it – The Merrell Fraxion. This lightweight shoe using the Merrell Select Grip soles provides you with traction and stability across multiple terrain landscapes. Not only comfortable out of the box, the Merrell Fraxion adventure shoe is very weather resistant. These shoes are perfectly engineered and built so you can pull them out of the box, slip them on, and bang out ten miles of hiking without an afterthought.

Colors: Brown Sugar (shown), Black, and Chocolate Brown

Sizes Available: 7 to 15 in medium width

Weight: 1lb 13oz

Upper Material: The upper material is a PU coated leather and fabric making them ideal for wet weather conditions. If they get wet the water beads right up and rolls off the shoe.

Outsole Material: The outsole uses the Merrell M-Select grip. This grip delivers a durable, highly slip-resistant stability on wet and dry ground, over mixed terrain.

The aggressive outsole screams performance on the trail.

Fit and Sizing: The fit and sizing are true to the size. I typically wear a 10.5 medium width and that’s what I’ve been using with these shoes. The fit is extremely comfortable.

MSRP: $110 direct from Merrell

Unique Features:

  • Bellow tongue keeps debris out
  • Removable EVA footbed
  • Molded nylon arch shank
  • Merrell air cushion in the heel absorbs shock and adds stability
  • 5mm lug depth

Application:

  • Everyday casual wear
  • Mountain Biking
  • Trail Hiking

Pros:

  • Extremely Comfortable
  • Extremely lightweight – due to the construction of this shoe it allows you to move through the woods and on the trails quietly, enhancing your ability to scout & stalk game or just stay quiet & hidden.
  • Highly weather resistant

Cons:

  • The only con I have noticed is the shoe laces. They tend to want to come undone unless you tie a really tight knot. One option you have is to replace the factory shoe laces with a pair of Rhino Laces that will probably outlast the shoe.

Bottom Line/Overall Performance:

The overall performance of these shoes has been nothing short of impressive. I’ve been wearing them on a daily basis for several weeks with absolutely no issues. I’ve done plenty of normal day to day walking, mountain biking, and hiking. The one thing that really stands out to me is the weight of these shoes. It almost feels as if you’re wearing a minimalist shoe. If you’re looking for an adventure shoe for your fall hikes and adventures, give the Merrell Fraxion a serious look.
