Watch | DJI Releases two new Mavic 2 Drones

Watch | DJI Releases two new Mavic 2 Drones

After dabbling in commercial and recreational drone photography for the past 4 years, I think DJI has finally found the “sweet spot”. As an early adopter, I’ve gone through the DJI Phantom phase and am well into the Mavic phase. The Phantom was stable, easy to fly and took great pictures and video. But was a burden to travel with due to its size. When the original Mavic Pro was released in 2016, I jumped on it. Folding up to the size of a Nalgene bottle and sporting a 4+ mile range was everything I needed. But the image quality despite shooting 4k wasn’t amazing. DJI listened. And just released the second generation Mavic. Available in two different flavors, the Zoom and Pro. The Zoom ($1249) has a 24-48mm optical zoom which is a first in the consumer drone market. And Pro ($1449) with a Hasselblad lens and a 20MP 1″ Sony CMOS sensor and an adjustable aperture. Which is a major upgrade and the one I ended up purchasing.

Now you can have your cake and eat it too. All the convenience of a folding portable drone with the optics of the larger Phantom Pro platform. If you’ve been on the fence about purchasing a drone, now is the time. What you can see and capture with an aerial platform is amazing. And I plan to incorporate more drone photography in my upcoming product reviews and while Overland camping. Stay tuned…
