Im-Perfection? Glock 19X Mag Compatibility Issues

My local FFL just acquired 4 Glock 19X models and I promptly went down to get some hands on with the MHS Glock. If this gun hadn’t lost the MHS competition I likely wouldn’t be super interested, but I had to see it. It’s an interesting design that’s been getting equal levels of flack and love. First impressions were mixed. The 19X has a slick FDE box, 3 FDE magazines, two outfitted with +2 extensions, and the gun itself looks great.

The trigger is way better than the previous Gen 5 Glocks I’ve handled and the FDE on the slide and frame looks great. The sights are way better than the traditional Glock U sights, and the lack of finger grooves is a blessing.

The Flaw with the 19X

All is good right? Unfortunately no, there is one major issue. Glock has decided to add an odd little lip to the bottom of the grip. This does not interact well with Gen 5 Glock magazines. Actually, it keeps the 19X from using these magazines. The new Gen 5 base plate is a bit bigger and easier to grab from a mag pouch. That’s great, but that little extra, mixed with the 19X’s little extra is no bueno.

The good news is that there are thousands of Glock magazines floating around that will function fine with the 19X. Take this article as your warning. Stick to the previous generation Glock magazines with your 19X.

What Will Come of This?

I’m betting Glock will fix the gun before things get too crazy. That little pinky rest tab thing will disappear. If you have the new MHS Glock resist dremeling that little lip off. Your model maybe more collectible if Glock swoops in and fixes it. I plan to ask Glock about this issue at SHOT, so stay tuned.
