Sig Sauer Releases New PDW Rifle “The Rattler”

Sig Sauer has announced the latest rifle to come out of New Hampshire, the Sig Sauer MCX Rattler Short Barrel Rifle. The new rifle is chambered in the potent .300 AAC Blackout and sports the familiar lines of the popular MCX Series of rifles but with a twist. The rifle is a PDW or Personal Defense Weapon, which means it is control item under the National Firearms Act, but Sig Sauer has also announced the MCX PSB which is the pistol version of the rifle. The MCX PSB will feature the same chambering and 5.5″ barrel as the Rattler SBR but without the additional $200 tax stamp and 12-14 month waiting period. The Rattler will also feature integrated M-Lok rails as well as a lightweight aluminum folding stock that offers a thin profile for users who want to be discreet but also allows for quick deployment when needed. It would appear that Sig Sauer has set its sights on addressing the needs of people who operate in a hostile world but want a blend of discretion and violence when needed to full fill their missions.

The rifle has an announced street price of $2727.00 while the MCX PSB pistol variant comes in as almost the same price at $2719.00, these guns are not cheap and honestly out of most recreational shooters price ranges. While the idea of a PDW chambered in .300 Blackout sounds amazing, I am skeptical of Sig’s longterm support of their rifles, the company has a reputation of releasing rifles then in a few short years not supporting them any longer. All you have to do is find a gun owner who has had one of their rifles and tried to call Sig Sauer’s customer service line. I love Sig, Ive owned many of them over the years but after the P320 winning the Army’s contract in January and the issues with the P320 that started coming out shortly after, the executives at Sig Sauer have a lot riding on this rifle to make the company’s short-term reputation bounce back. What do you think ? at more than $2700 a piece are the Sig Sauers MCX Rattlers priced too high for you to be interested in them ?
