Firearms Private Sales: How to Protect Yourself

Sometimes, it happens. You don’t use a certain firearm so much and it’s taking up space in your gun locker, or you fall on some financial hardship and you need to generate some quick cash. Firearms are a quick way to make some money. But how do you sell your firearm? This is something that […]

SIG SAUER Introduces 300 Win Mag Match Grade Elite Performance Ammunition

SIG SAUER, Inc. continues to expand its Match Grade Elite Performance Ammunition line for rifles with the addition of 300 Win Mag Open Tip Match (OTM) rounds.  Featuring a 190gr Sierra MatchKing® bullet, this new 300 Win Mag load has a muzzle velocity of 2,850 fps and muzzle energy of 3,426 ft-lbs. Engineered to excel […]

The Sig 320 X-Five is the flagship of the 320 X-Series. Sig calls it the "pinnacle for competition." It is chambered in 9mm or .40 S&W and ready for a match right out of the box. The X-5 has been upgraded with every feature a boy could want: a five-inch match barrel, flat trigger, fully adjustable sights, detachable flared magazine well, integrated grip weight, extended beavertail, undercut trigger guard, extended slide catch lever and optic ready. I got the 9mm model and I am not disappointed. The gun looks great, the slide has three lightning cuts on top and grasping grooves in the slide that are straight and aligned with the grip angle. To top it all off, each P320 X-Five includes four (4) 21rd steel magazines. It comes in a nice foam fitted Sig pistol box. I wanted the P320 X-Five 9mm because it incorporates all of the features I wanted to maximize accuracy, and ergonomics while maintaining the modularity of the P320 platform. You can buy a cheap gun ad up grade it, but you never know if the parts are going to work well together. The X-Five is ready on arrival. The X-Series grip module has a deep trigger guard undercut, a high back strap and an extended beavertail which combined with the flared mag well exactly form to my hand. This gives me a high grip for great recoil management. The removable grip weight lets me tweak the balance to exactly where I want it. The X-Five has a straight trigger that helps the shooter get a consistent set and press. It breaks at 90 degrees for an even better feeling pull. Dawson Precision® Fiber Optic sights are my favorite. The colored post draws the eye and the wide rear notch lines up fast and provides a very precise picture. The rear sights are fully-adjustable. As if that wasn't good enough, there is more. The X-Five pistol is optics-ready right out of the box. The rear sight plate can be removed as a unit and replaced with a ROMEO1 red dot optic. “My Sights Are Off” and other Pistol Accuracy Myths

There are some trips to the range that I remember very clearly… A decade or so ago, I bought an H&K USPc. I immediately took it to the range, had the sights swapped out, and took it onto the range for a test fire. The darn thing shot low. I took it back to the gunsmith […]

An Unexpected Concealed Carry Option: Bersa BP9CC

An Unexpected Concealed Carry Option: Bersa BP9CC

A 9mm handgun less than an inch wide with 8+1 capacity.  This has become nearly the norm for those looking for an easily concealed handgun for carry in hot weather or when utmost discretion is required.  It’s easy to think of the 2015 Glock 43, the S&W Shield after its initial recall 2013, but with […]

"Smart” Guns: Potemkin Safety from Bureaucrats

“Smart” Guns: Potemkin Safety from Bureaucrats

This dumb idea keeps regenerating itself like respawning enemies in a zombie game, or, given the age and technology behind this dumb old idea, like the bad guys in Space Invaders, the ancient arcade video game (if you recognize the screen on the left, “the hill” is something you’re officially “over”). Fortunately, not everyone is as weary of battling […]

Brigand Arms Handguards: Cool to the Touch, Amazingly Light, Astoundingly Strong

Brigand Arms Handguards: Cool to the Touch, Amazingly Light, Astoundingly Strong

Brigand Arms makes carbon fiber handguards.  The pictures show the revolutionary use of sophisticated materials, but until you handle one you can’t really understand how light they really are. The 9-inch rail weighs only 3.9 ounces without rails or accessories.  That’s less than $5 worth of quarters and they are stronger than you can believe. According […]

VG6 Precision Gamma: When A Muzzle Brake Works

VG6 Precision Gamma: When A Muzzle Brake Works

Muzzle devices are one of those accessories that can easily frustrate.  Prices range from $20 to “You want how much for that?!”.  Having tested over a dozen for the AK series of rifles I was hesitant to try something for the Northwest Rifle in 300 Blackout.  I knew the A2-style flash-hider had to go, but […]

First Look: Spike’s Tactical Roadhouse .308 AR-10

First Look: Spike’s Tactical Roadhouse .308 AR-10

Spike’s Tactical has a well-established name for making some of the coolest rifles out there.  From fun lowers to high-performance dream rifles they’re all available at Spike’s.  In our recent series of AR-10 rifles we came upon the Roadhouse in .308. Built like Schwarzennager should wield it, the Roadhouse is beefy.  Of course everything is […]
