The First 21st Century Handgun: SilencerCo Maxim 9

With the looming passage of the Hearing Protection Act, the day is coming when all firearms will have mufflers.  The SliencerCo Maxim 9 is an integrally suppressed handgun in 9mm which will soon be the standard by which all others will be measured.

If motorcycles didn’t have mufflers, few would ride them.  The experience of having to ride with hearing protection risking hearing loss would be a big turn off. In most of the world, firearms suppressors are not registered at all.  It only make sense to decriminalize hearing protection.

The HPA seeks to remove suppressors from the NFA and instead have their purchase and transfer treated the same as a long gun – no more $200 tax or extensive waiting period – customers will now undergo an instantaneous NICS background check.

In an America where suppressors are bought in the same manner as long guns, all modern guns will have some type of integral suppressor.  Old “loud” guns will be relegated to hobby shooters and history buffs.

After nine years of dreaming and ten thousand hours of trial and error, the guys at SilencerCo have done it.  They made a 9mm, holster-able, integrally suppressed 9mm pistol that is hearing safe with all types of ammunition. It is striker fired and uses Glock 17 magazines.

The trigger is smooth and just heavy enough to be safe.  It shoots like a Glock with a good aftermarket trigger. The slightly forward center of balance allows easy pointing yet eliminates muzzle flip with rapid multiple shots.

In honor of the official production launch of the Maxim 9, SilencerCo has made a video offering a glimpse into the journey to create the most disruptive product to hit the firearms industry in decades.

Shipped in its full-length configuration, the Maxim 9 comes with everything the user needs to shorten the overall length by more than 1”; in the short configuration, the Maxim 9 remains hearing safe with subsonic ammunition. (SHORT  and LONG) .
