Detroit Police Chief Recommends Concealed Carry

Detroit Police Chief Recommends Concealed Carry - TheArmsGuide.com

Especially in recent years, Detroit has established a reputation for itself as one of the most dangerous cities in the United States. But this year, new police chief James Craig has taken a stand again the commonality of violent crime in his city. He has renewed the determination of the Detroit police against crime, but that’s not all he’s encouraging. Detroit’s latest police chief also had a message for Detroit’s law abiding citizens; he is encouraging them to get their concealed carry permits and to arm themselves.

To be clear, Craig doesn’t endorse vigilantism—a CWP (concealed weapons permit) is not a badge. In a recent press release after a justifiable homicide case on March 25th (in which a Detroit homeowner defended himself against two home invaders—neither attacker survived), he said this:

“We’re not advocating violence; we’re advocates of not being victims. We’re advocates of self protection. We want people to be safe.” – Detroit Chief of Police, James Craig

Even Craig noted that Detroit appears to be experiencing a rise in justifiable homicides, in situations much like the home invasion on March 25th. However, Detroit is also experiencing a positive correlating trend: as of January 2014, criminal homicides have experienced a 14% reduction, with a 7% drop in violent crime, in general, since Craig took up the reins as police chief.

More concealed carry permit holders are protecting themselves, and it would seem that offenders and would-be criminals are taking note. Law abiding citizens are using concealed carry as a means of protecting themselves, and, according to Detroit police chief James Craig, it’s working.
