Damage Industries QD Sling Mount Review

Knowing exactly what accessory I needed for my AR-15, but then not being able to find it anywhere, was one of the most frustrating situations I have faced during my building process. In fact, I was starting to think that no one actually made what I wanted. It wasn’t until I dove deep into some forum searches that I found exactly what I was looking for from Damage Industries.

The Damage Industries QD Small D-ring Sling Swivel

On my AR-15, I utilize a Magpul ASAP sling mount and a Magpul MS3 sling. This makes for a nice single point sling option, but I wanted a QD (quick detach) option to turn my MS3 into a two point sling. Doing this would be as easy as disconnecting the connected end of the MS3 sling and then reattaching it to a sling mount somewhere else on my rifle.

Because I built my AR-15 with a Wilson Combat TRIM Rail, I had two QD attach points built right into my rail for me to use. I wanted to use this option rather than installing something additional onto my rails. I also wanted the sling swivel to be round to allow the MS3 clip to swing as freely as possible, and give me good range of motion. I wrongly assumed that it would be easy to find a “roundish” QD sling swivel.

After quite an extensive search on the Internet using all my geek, and nerd tricks and powers, I was not able to find this type of QD sling swivel until I started searching forums on AR15.com. It was then that I discovered that Damage Industries makes the exact accessory that I had been looking for. They call it their “QD Small D-Ring”

The Damage Ind. Small D-Ring sling mount works great with my Wilson Combat TRIM Rail.

Upon delivery and installation of this quick detach d-ring on my AR-15, I was pleased with the way it spun and turned freely. I was able to manipulate it 360°, and my MS3 sling clip fit perfectly when I attached it. The size of the d-ring was large enough to allow free range of movement, but small enough to be unobtrusive. And when I tested its security by jumping up and down and pulling on it with some force, I discovered no other issues.

All in all, I am happy that I found this accessory and it appears that my many hours of digging through the Internet was worthwhile: the Damage Industries QD Sling Mount was exactly what my rifle needed.
