Burris AR-536 Tactical Kit: Shoot Better, Shoot Faster

The AR-536 Tactical Kit includes an AR-536 fixed 5x scope  and a FastFire II 4 MOA red dot reflex sight. Like every Burris optic, the AR-536 is covered by the Burris Forever Warranty.  It is well build and designed to work across the entire spectrum of AR shooting.

The guys at Burris really did their homework. After talking to LEOs, soldiers and 3-gun shooters, they figured out you need magnification and ballistic data for small targets far away and a red dot for fast shooting up close.

They came up with a simple bolt on solution. The AR-536 is solidly built to handle heavy recoil, abuse and bad weather. The Nitrogen-filled body tube is waterproof to prevent internal fogging in damp environments.

The inside of the scope is like a watch. To assure precise and uniform adjustments, precision-gauged, hand-fitted internal assemblies maintain a consistent point of impact even during shock and vibration.

The index-matched, Hi-Lume multicoated lenses provide low-light performance and eliminates glare. An adjustable diopter and a 36mm objective lens lets in plenty of light. The image is clear and bright as you expect with quality optics.

To really test this scope, I needed a great rifle. I started with the folks at Ballistic Advantage and got one of their 17.7 inch Performance Series Hanson Barrels with their proprietary profile. It comes with a pinned lo-pro gas block, 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium steel barrel with a QPQ Corrosion Resistant Finish, and a FailZero Nickel Boron Coated Extended M4 Feed Ramp Extension. The BA Hanson Profile is designed to harness bullet energy while limiting felt recoil.

Next I went to Brian at Tridentis Tactical and asked him to build a precision upper around the Hanson Barrel. He used an A*B Pro 5.56 Bolt Carrier Group and a new Tridentis rail and upper. The great result was typical of the work at Tridentis.

The 5x magnification uses the Ballistic CQ reticle to great effect. The rotary, 10-position power selector adjusts a lighted reticle with different illumination settings and a choice of red or green lighting to accommodate any light conditions. The reticle is powered by one CR2032 battery.

The etched-on black reticle can illuminate to red or green.  The large doughnut center of the reticle allows for engagement at close distances.

The Ballistic CQ reticle’s holdover dots are good to 600 yards and work with a variety of 5.56 or 7.62mm ammo using the table provided.  This provides incredible flexibility.

I shot this gun extensively with Federal Fusion 62 grain and Black Hills 77 grain .223 ammo. It was easy to zero and the click adjustments were crisp and consistent.

Using the chart and the CQ reticile, there was no problem putting first round hits on steel E type silhouettes out to 500 yards. It is fast and easy. Find your ammo on the chart and remember your range hold offs for the four dots on the reticle. Then, you just hold and shoot.

I was able to shoot consistent 1 MOA groups with Black Hills 77 grain ammo. This scope is not designed to shoot little groups in paper. It will give fast hits on large game animals and human sized targets out to 500 yards.

There are some very clever features built into the AR-536. Picatinny rails provide multiple mounting options lasers or lights. Integrated lens covers and an Anti-Reflection Device protect the lenses. The scope comes ready to mount directly to a flat top AR receiver, or with the bottom rail mount removed, the optic can be mounted to an AR carrying handle. Windage and elevation caps are tethered to prevent loss.  It also comes in a weather proof case.
