The Arms Guide Optic of the Year 2017: Nikon BLACK X1000

Of all the impressive optics that we have seen this year, we have selected the Nikon BLACK X1000 as The Arms Guide Optic of the Year for 2107. The Arms Guide writers at looked at three broad areas in selecting the gun of the year: Innovation, Value and Function. Nikon Black gives the shooter enhanced optical performance, extreme durability and mechanical precision in a value priced precision long-range scope.

Innovation:

Nikon’s Illuminated X-MRAD Reticle can be applied to virtually any shooting application regardless of caliber or ballistic performance, and can be further optimized for specific shooting situations utilizing Nikon’s Spot On Ballistic Match Technology.

Value:

There are more capable optics out there, but you will pay twice as much. Nikon Black has features that have never been seen at this price range. The BLACK X1000 4-16x50SF Matte Illuminated X-MRAD Reticle has an MSRP of $599.95

Built with an aircraft grade aluminum alloy 30mm main body tube it has a 50mm objective. The illuminated X-MRAD reticle, the Black provides 17 total MRAD internal adjustment travel. It is a  second focal plane Mil/Mil system, so all holdover corrections, ranging and other measurements using the reticle subtensions can be done without conversion to MOA. The lead- and arsenic-free glass lenses are fully multicoated with anti-reflective compounds.

No matter what you do, no matter what happens to your scope, Nikon will replace it for free. Nikon’s NO FAULT POLICY is not completely unique in the industry, what makes it special is that it is so rarely needed. You don’t hear about Nikon’s warranty service because the scopes so rarely have problems.

Function:

Turret-mounted side focus parallax adjustment and external windage and elevation turret internal travel are enhanced for long-range dialing and are precise and repeatable.

Turret-mounted Side Focus Parallax Adjustment

Because scope failure is not an option for serious hunters and shooters, Nikon tests all of its scopes and built to last a lifetime. Drop test, freeze test etc. Long after competitors scopes fail, Nikon scopes perform.

Most scopes are not suited for the intense recoil energy of the .50 BMG cartridge in a bolt action rifle. The guys at Nikon said “No problem.”

Windage and elevation turret internal travel is enhanced for long-range adjustments, Click-stop movements operate with no backlash and are precise and repeatable. Nikon Black scopes use a Mil/Mil system. The turrets have .1 MRAD click graduations yielding 5 MRAD per revolution. The reticle is placed in the riflescope’s second focal plane, so all holdover corrections, ranging and other measurements using the reticle subtensions should be done at 18x magnification.

Nikon’s Illuminated X-MRAD Reticles

Nikon’s X-MRAD Reticle is a glass-etched MRAD grid with an illuminated option. The X-MRAD reticle is clean and visually simple, yet highly functional and advanced tools for estimating range, maintaining holdovers or dialing elevation come ups and compensating for wind.
