The Fan Holster – AlienGear Puts a Fan in a Holster

Fan Holster

I’m a big fan of AlienGear, eagle eyed readers and that one weird stalker fan of mine may have noticed I’ve written about the ShapeShift series quite a bit. So I was excited to swing by their booth at SHOT Show and check out the ShapeShift Shoulder rig. Don’t get me wrong I checked out the Shoulder Rig and was suitably impressed, but something else there caught my eye a bit more. Dubbed the Fan holster AlienGear has stepped forward with something truly new in the holster world. They placed a small fan on their IWB ShapeShift platform that blows cool air through the rear of holster.

Wait, What? A Fan holster?

That was my actual response, as I was both utterly confused and impressed at the same time. I tend to embrace new tech and guns with open arms. Once Jake powered it up and I felt how well it worked I was suitably impressed. Its a simple idea, but it works. Now the model pictured here is just a prototype. The Fan Holster may change over time, so just remember this is an experiment and not a final product.

The current fan holster lasts for 4 hours, but they are aiming for an 8 to 10 hour battery life with the final product. The current model charges via mini USB and has a simple push button on/off device. With the many USB being the most common choice for phones charging the Fan holster is bound to be easy to do in a vehicle, at home, and when traveling.

I like tech in the gun industry, but the fear of electric failure is always a concern. With the fan holster it doesn’t really matter. If you fan dies it doesn’t affect your holster in anyway. The fan is super small, and super quiet. It’s not audible in anyway. It’s small, compact, and out of the way.

It’ll still carry the gun and won’t affect how you carry the gun. AlienGear excels with comfort and the Fan holster just seems to be an extension of that. I really hopes this works out for AlienGear and we see the Fan holster sooner rather than later.
