Spyderco Delica 4 Emerson Opener: Quick Look

January 2, 2015 by Scott Witner Leave a Comment

Spyderco Delica 4 Emerson Opener: Quick Look

The Delica 4 Emerson Opener is a feature-rich, ergonomic knife. The Emerson function transforms the knife from a utility-only knife into weapon territory. The small profile won’t scare anyone when you pull it out to open a bottle or cut up a box. If purchased as a general utility knife, the Delica will still be a great preparedness add-on.

Blade length: 2.9″

Type of edge: The blade is a saber-ground spear-point design.

Blade and handle materials: Blade steel is VG 10. Handle material is FRN (fiber reinforced nylon).

Weight: 2.55 ounces

MSRP: $119.95, but can be purchased on Amazon for around $60!

Unique features: The Emerson opening feature. This knife combines all the features in a Spyderco folder with the blade-opening feature made popular and patented by Ernest Emerson of Emerson Knives.

Spyderco Delica 4 Handle and Blade

Application: Everyday carry

Pros: Lightweight, with fast blade deployment (faster than most automatics due to the Emerson feature). You can buy spare parts kits directly from Syderco that will let you replace commonly worn-out parts. You can also buy training versions of this knife. This is a very affordable knife made from high-quality materials.

Cons: The black coating on the pocket clip wears easily. The Emerson opening feature is a bit larger than found on most Emerson Knives.

You can check out Spyderco’s full line of knives here.

*Stay tuned for a full field review of this knife.
