Gerber Sharkbelly | First look

Gerber Sharkbelly | First look

The debate about which knives are the best has been going on for some time now and will continue to go on.  Fixed or folding blade?  Fine edge or Serrated?  The style of knife someone chooses is just as personal as what hairstyle you have or what shoes you wear.  While in the military I carried a Gerber folding blade and  Multi tool because they were issued to me.  After years I came to realize that Gerber makes a quality product, not just for the military but for anyone who wants a quality product at a reasonable cost.  The Gerber Sharkbelly is just another in a long line of quality knives to depart the Portland, Oregon based company.

Construction:

The 420HC blade is tucked between two glass filled nylon handles with the sharkSkin grip (scales pointing in one direction anchoring the blade in the hand).  Larger thumb-hole for easier deployment, (no more little studs mounted on the blade to swing the knife open).  Scratch resistant clip (called scratch resistant due to the low profile nature and how it hugs your pocket). The lock back mechanism keeps blade open and secure during use.

Application:

This Gerber Sharkbelly was designed as an update to the classic everyday carry pocket knife and with a lightweight 3.25 inch blade and an overall length of 7.75 inches, the Sharkbelly is lightweight and small enough to tuck into the front pocket of your jeans or on the pockets of the flight suit and is an ideal daily carry for anyone.  Check back in a few weeks for a full review after thorough testing.
