Seattle based Outdoor Research, known for their amazing outerwear, is applying its knowledge in another direction. Hidden behind closed doors at Outdoor Retailer 2017 is a preview of their upcoming Tactical line of equipment. Although not for public consumption, Hurricane Media was allowed behind the scenes to get a closer look. As the vault door was opened, a pallet of Coyote Tan, Gray and Multicam dominated my vision. And for the next hour, I listened to a detailed dissertation laden with all the technology and thought put into these new products.
Outdoor Research MGS Glove
Pioneering new ways to seam tape gloves, Outdoor Research is changing the way they’re made from the inside out. They’re also changing the way glove systems are used. Similar to how we dress our bodies for a cold environment, OR’s modular glove systems follow the same principals. Utilizing 3DFit Technology, OR has created complimentary glove layers for varying temperatures. Stretchy next-to-skin layers followed by a heavier Primaloft insulated layer. Finally topped off with a completely waterproof seam taped hard shell layer. Fortunately, the material interface between layers also solves a common problem. Often times, the glove liner will slide within the shell. Not something you want to happen while hanging onto an ice axe. Additionally, the gloves liners will work in both the mitten and trigger finger mitten shells. As well, all layers can be worn independently if the situation calls for it.
Outdoor Research Infiltrator Jacket
Outerwear has always been a key focus for Outdoor Research. With heavy competition in the Tactical space from other manufacturers, OR has really zeroed in on the complete system theory. Starting with the next-to-skin garments and working their way through various base layers and insulating layers, OR has saved the best for last. The Infiltrator Jacket and Pants. Integrating unique FLEX2FIT stretch panels and Hybrid-Mapped Design, this 100% waterproof Gore-Tex shell will not only move with the operator, but insure they stay dry. With all the tech in the right places and a perfect ergonomic design, I can tell you that Arc’Teryx had better take cover. The Infiltrator Jacket from OR means business.
All of the Outdoor Research Tactical clothing take into consideration the sizing of their garments while layered. What does this mean? It means if you are a size large, you order a size large underwear, size large insulating layer and size large shell. Each layer is fitted for compatibility with each other. No more size large insulating layer and needing an XL shell to cover it. Only to be left with too large a shell when the insulating layer is no longer required. The passion and thought put into these upcoming products is both inspiring and exciting. Stay tuned for upcoming reviews…
