We’ve all been there–You’re having a nice day at the beach, a lazy Sunday on the boat, or maybe just a barbecue with a few sprinklers set up for the kids and whether you meant to or not, you end up soaking wet. Modern phones are built to hold up to that kind of punishment these days, but there’s another part of just about every man’s EDC (every day carry) that doesn’t hold up to H20 quite as well: your wallet.
I’ve carried the same old leather wallet for years, and while it may not be anything special, I don’t like to replace things until I need to. So, like so many of us, I end up just pulling my IDs and credit cards out of my wallet and sticking them in my pocket before setting off for the beach or getting on the boat. You can pray those cards don’t fall out, or you can get you hands on a wallet made specifically for these types of situations.
Here at the Loadout Room, we’re all about the right tool for the job, and if you’re going to be out on the water, you’ll need a wallet that won’t wither away and die the minute it lands in the drink. That’s where the Reborn Wetsuit Wallet comes in. They’re made out of recycled wetsuit neoprene and polyester that was spun out of recycled plastic bottles–meaning not only are these wallets perfectly at home in the water, they’re also good for the environment.
The wallet stretches to hold up to ten cards but will hold just one or two snugly without any concern about them falling out. I usually carried two credit cards, my driver’s license and my concealed carry permit (IDs on one side, credits cards on the other) and never had the slightest concern about the cards slipping free.
While these wallets were made for use in the water, I’ve also found them really handy for hikes in the hot and humid hills of Georgia. It might sound gross (because it is) but I’ve never once gotten home from a summer hump without being soaked in sweat, and now I don’t have to subject my leather wallet to all that nastiness. I just stick the Reborn Wetsuit Wallet with my essential cards in my front pocket along with my phone and away I go.
These wallets retail from Reborn for $19.99, which isn’t bad–especially considering ten percent of the proceeds go to ocean cleanup efforts. So if you spend a lot of time on the water or sweaty in the field and you also want to do your part to help the planet’s oceans, the Reborn Wetsuit Wallet is a great pick for you.
