New and improved Multi-Tool from Gerber: the Suspension NXT

New and improved Multi-Tool from Gerber: the Suspension NXT

Everyone loves a good multi-tool and Gerber is one of the most well-known and respected companies producing them. One of the challenges for a company like that is to keep innovating and improving their product lines. The new Suspension NXT offers an increase in the number of tools from the original – 15 total – and is designed to go anywhere you want it to.

My favorite feature on the Suspension NXT is the outward facing tools and locking system. They make accessing the tools incredibly fast and simple by not having to open the handles while offering peace of mind that the tools are secure when open and will not close on your fingers during use. At an affordable $35 MSRP, the overall design is very clean and feels durable. It has a great ergonomic feel and relatively slim profile that makes it comfortable to use.

The hidden spring for the jaws of the pliers ensures you won’t have to worry about losing the spring, while it functions smoothly and saves hand-strength — and the same can be said for the scissors. The needlenose pliers also feature a wire stripper and standard plier surface.

The 2.25″ blade comes sharp enough out of the box. Not bad for a stainless steel blade in this price range. Sometimes the blade on a multi-tool is awkward to use, but the shape of the handle and the placement of the blade on the Suspension NXT make this partially serrated blade surprisingly comfortable to use. As an EDC item, the pocket clip allows for it to be deeply carried in a pocket or securely fastened to a belt.

I appreciate that Gerber designed this multi-tool to be easy to open each tool with staggered thumb catches and smart placement. It may not offer the most tools, be made of the highest quality steel, or be the absolute best value on the market — but I feel that Gerber hit a home run with this offering. It has performed just as well as other multi-tools that I have in the $100+ range for a fraction of the cost.

Here is a list of the featured Suspension NXT tools and a corresponding diagram.
