Mission Ready Chukka | by 5.11 Tactical

September 27, 2018 by Erik Meisner 1 Comment

Mission Ready Chukka

Not every mission-set requires the operator to be fully kitted-up in tactical gear. Sometimes, a more delicate touch is needed. A Low-Vis operation that requires personnel to blend into an urban environment. Or a Low-Vis security detail that doesn’t want to draw attention to the principal. For these missions, the choice of footwear might be tough. That is until 5.11 Tactical introduced the Mission Ready Chukka. This boot blends the features required to get the job done with casual and stylish footwear.

Mission Ready Chukka
Pairs well with the 5.11 Defender Flex Pants

5.11 Tactical has long since met the rigorous demands of Military and Law Enforcement personnel. Supplying them (us) with boots, tactical clothing and equipment for years. Last year at SHOT Show, we noticed them take a slightly different approach. One that wasn’t so overt. Tactical gear that didn’t look tactical at all. It all started with the Defender Flex Jeans and Pants. Offering hidden mag pockets in a pant that wouldn’t grab your attention. Or alert the wrong individuals of your hidden capability. Shirts, Women’s wear, purses and bags. All with hidden CCW pockets and tactical capabilities. The Mission Ready Chukka is a continuation of their new line of thinking.

With footwear, it all starts from the ground up. And selecting the right sole can make or break a shoe. I was happy to see 5.11 choosing one of the best in the business to skin the bottoms of the Chukka. A Vibram Overland non-marking rubber outsole with XS Trek formula for better traction in wet and dry environments. I’ve owned many boots with the venerable Vibram sole on board. And none of them have ever let me down. Also assisting with shock absorption is the D3O Lite midsole. An improvement over the traditional EVA midsole, D3O Lite offers added shock absorption and rebound for all-day comfort. Why they chose white for the midsole must have been a decision based on style. I wish they stuck with a dark color.

Mission Ready Chukka

Building on a strong foundation, the water-resistant full grain leather upper is available in both classic black and brown (flat dark earth). Complimenting most casual and business attire. The Mission Ready Chukka also offers an OrthoLite X25 molded insole as well as ankle foam for better comfort and “heel hold”. To top it off, an antimicrobial treatment is applied to the lining to help keep the funk to a minimum when you don’t have time to let your dogs air out.

Due to my time in Army Special Operations, I’ve logged a minute or two in leather boots. Although that chapter in my life is in the rearview mirror, I still appreciate a solid leather work boot while operating my construction company. The Mission Ready Chukka is a jack-of-all-trades. A boot that can remain casual and comfortable until the mission calls you into action. Whether you are a Special Agent, or just an average guy like me, the Mission Ready Chukka from 5.11 Tactical is a clear winner in my book.
