This may be the future of our special operations troops. The head of U.S. Special Operations command, Adm. William McRaven once said that he wants to build an Iron Man suit for special operators that will repel bullets and offer super human strengths. As crazy or un-realistic as this sounds, it looks like it is already in the works. The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command is currently seeking a contract and would like to have these suits issued to our boots on the ground hard hitters in 4 years!
This work of art is known as the TALOS (Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit). The contract requirement states some of the details needed in the suit such as: an exoskeleton with top of the line body armor, displays for power monitoring, health monitoring, and integrating a weapon into the entire system.
Top military officials are also seeking engineers in order to develop some type of liquid body armor, a liquid substance that can, “transform from liquid to solid in milliseconds when a magnetic field or electrical current is applied.”
With all of the work that seems to be taking place, we’ll just have to keep an open eye out for what may come in the next few years.
