Holosun HS515CM: Holoy Cow This Baby is Loaded With Features

Holosun HS515CM: Holoy Cow This Baby is Loaded With Features

The HS515CM is a micro red dot optic. You can switch from a 2 MOA dot to a 65 MOA circle dot with a push of a button. The back-up battery lasts up to 5-years on the dot and up to 2 years on the circle dot. The included Quick Detach 2 piece mount provides the right height and an adjustable quick release.

The reticle is a central 2 MOA dot, centered in a 65 MOA circle with 4 positioning points. The outer circle of the reticle can be turned on and off by pressing the “minus” button for three seconds for a specific sight picture. A handy function of this reticle is a fast sight picture up close and the ability to use the bottom of the outer ring to aim, correcting for sight offset on ARs.

The first thing I noticed when I pulled the 515 out of the box was the reticle. It was viable, even though I hadn’t put the battery in yet. Holosun’s highly efficient Auto mode provides a default system to select battery power or light emitting diodes and solar panels allow the HS515CM to run with or without a battery if there is enough ambient light.

The HS515CM comes with clear flip-up lens covers, a quick release mount and a kill flash filter. The nonlinear cam clamping system hooks up tight with no tools. The locking button automatically engages and releases with a simple push.

A trip to the range with the 9mm CMMG Guard was highly productive. Zeroing was simple. On top of sight is an elevation adjusting knob, the windage adjusting knob is on the right side. You use the screwdriver molded into the caps on the knobs to make the adjustments, no tools. The 515 comes factory adjusted for approximate zero. Mine was on at 50 yards right out of the box. Each left or right click of adjustment is 0 .5 MOA.

Rotating the elevation knob right will move the red dot up, turn left to lower the red dot. With the windage knob, turn right to move the red dot to right, turn left to move the dot to the left.

Solar Failsafe: If your battery fails, you still can have a fully functional optic provided you have sufficient ambient light. It does not matter whether the light is natural or artificial in origin. Furthermore, the solar array also acts like a light sensor allowing the unit to automatically adjust the brightness to compensate for its surroundings

Shake Awake: This great feature allows the optic to automatically go to sleep when the unit has not detected any type of movement or vibration in a specific amount of time that is programmable by the operator. However, once the unit senses movement, it will automatically turn itself on and recall the last brightness that was used. This great feature helps promote battery life further and insures the unit is on and ready when you need it.

Multiple Reticle System (M.R.S.): M.R.S. gives the user ability to select the ideal reticle for the job at hand. If you need a precise shot, you can run the 2MOA dot only. You need a reticle for fast target acquisition, just turn on an additional 65MOA ring with the push of a button.
