Erik Meisner’s Everyday Carry | Train Like You Fight

June 7, 2017 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

Fortunately I live in a state within this country that doesn’t infringe on my 2nd amendment rights to carry a concealed weapon. With the current published ISIS threat within the United States, remaining vigilant is of paramount concern every time I leave my house. This is why I stick to these basic items in my EDC (Everyday Carry).

I live in a wildly fluctuating climate that can see highs in the 90’s in the summer and lows in the -30F range in the winter. This is why I have 2 types of everyday carry.

In the summer months, I carry a Glock 43 with an Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0 IWB (Inside the Waistband) holster. The Alien Gear IWB holster is lined with a neoprene material against the skin making it the most comfortable IWB holster I’ve tried. The IWB holster is necessary in the summer months to keep a low profile with lighter clothing. I also carry a lightweight ZT0450 carbon fiber folding knife from Zero Tolerance, my iPhone 6 in a slim carbon fiber case and a Streamlight ProTac 2L light in certain situations. Another constant is my Citizen SkyHawk Eco Drive Titanium watch. This model is radio controlled and synchs with the Atomic Clock daily and never requires batteries. My credit cards and cash are kept secure in the Celtic Shield Wallet and I always have a pair of Oakley or Gatorz sunglasses.

In the winter months, I’ll swap my Glock 43 and the IWB holster in favor of my Glock 19 and Bravo Concealment Kydex holster. This is my preferred pistol due to it’s capacity and proper feel in my hand. I’m usually wearing jeans or a heavier work pant in these colder months so I upsize my knife as well to the Zero Tolerance ZT0350. I recently started carrying a small first aid kit (Trauma Pak Pro) whenever possible. If not on my person, I at least have it accessible in the vehicle or some kind of carry bag or backpack when mobile.

The most important piece of kit you can carry that takes up zero space at all is proper and frequent training with these pieces of everyday carry. We used to say in the Ranger Regiment “train like you fight and you’ll fight like you train”.
