Danner Mountain Pass Boots

June 26, 2018 by Scott Witner 2 Comments

Danner Mountain Pass Boots | Quick Look

Danner has been a long time name in the industry with a very reputable background. I used Danner boots back in the early 90’s when I was going through the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in the Sierra Nevadas. They were more expensive than most, but the investment was well worth it and my feet thanked me for it.

I’ve been eyeing the Danner Mountain Pass boots for quite some time. After Loadout Room writer Rex Nanorum was invited for a tour of their facility, they were generous enough to provide us with some samples to test and evaluate. One of those being the Mountain Pass boots.

I chose these boots for a few reasons.

  • They are lightweight
  • The leather will last for a very long time if taken care of
  • Due to the type of soles used, these are able to be re-soled when the original soles become worn out.
  • Made in America!

Veteran Navy SEAL Kyle Defoor swears by these boots. I have trained with Kyle Defoor and have been following him on social media for quite some time. Typically when he recommends a certain piece of gear, clothing or footwear, you listen! One of those being the Danner Mountain Pass boots. What does he have to say about them?

Danner Mountain Pass Light Boots
Roughly 6 hours of this or worse and still dry. Pure American Craftsmanship at its finest. I wear the danner boots mountain pass as my “summer” boot on the bike, range and hunting. I’ve worn them in over 100 degrees and down to mid thirties.

Description (courtesy of Danner Boots)

Made in our Portland, Oregon, factory, the Mountain Pass was created to be a lighter weight and more versatile hiking boot that still reflects our classic Danner styling. Built with light hikes and city streets in mind, the overall design is inspired by our original Mountain Light with an updated construction method that integrates the shank, midsole and lasting board into a single piece. This new, unified platform, combined with a low profile Vibram outsole, allowed us to significantly reduce weight and create an out-of-the-box comfort that doesn’t come standard with most classic hiking boots.
