First of all, I have to admit that I am partial to axes and hatchets. It might be the Nordic Viking blood running through my veins, but I have always loved axes and hatchets. I started splitting wood using an axe at about 10 years of age and loved doing it.
The Cold Steel War Hawk is incredibly strong! I have had mine for well over a year and have brought it everywhere I have gone where I might need it.
This is a weapon; I would not use it to split wood unless I had to. That being said when you need to split wood or utilize an axe in a combat, survival, or self-defense situation, you should have an axe that will not let you down when you really need it.
The handle is replaceable and is made of a black synthetic polypropylene material and is resistant to scratches or nicks, as well as fluids. The axe head is quite sharp but can be sharpened further if you choose to do so. The axe comes with a solid guard to protect the axe head and of course to protect anything that it might come in contact with.
The axe head is made of drop forged 1055 carbon steel and is wide and broad “bearded” style shape to it and opposite to the broad head is a tanto style spike. Those two very different sharpened shapes add to the axes versatility and potential effectiveness in combat.
I also throw axes as a hobby (as well as knives) and I was able to get this axe to stick once I figured out its balance point. Throwing the axe caused it no damage at all, even with numerous misses.
The best part of this axe is its price! Cold Steel products are very reasonably priced in general. Available on Amazon for around $33; that is a bargain for an axe that will last a lifetime.
So if you are in the market for a solid combat axe, or even if you are not in the market for one, check out this cold Steel product; you will not be disappointed.
