Springfield XD-S Recall

Springfield XD-S 9 Revisited: Full Review - TheArmsGuide.com

Last week, Springfield Armory issued a voluntary recall for both the 9mm and .45 ACP model XD-S pistols (note: no XD or XDM pistols are included in the recall, only the 3.3″ single stack XD-S pistols). If you, or someone you know, has an XD-S, here’s some more info on the Springfield XD-S recall to determine what guns are being recalled, and what to do with them.

What’s Wrong

While extremely rare, there have been reports of XD-S pistols within a certain serial number range (see below) either unintentionally discharging upon chambering a round, or double firing when the trigger is pulled. There haven’t yet been any injuries associated with the recalled pistols, but either situation is dangerous.

Recalled Serial Numbers

The XD-S pistols have their serial numbers located on the underside of the pistol frame (under the accessory rail) and on the bottom of the slide (beneath the roll-marked XD-S logo, near the muzzle). To check whether or not your Springfield XD-S is on the recall list, refer to the chart below:

What to Do

Until you’re assured of whether or not your gun is included in the Springfield XD-S recall, Springfield Armory recommends first carefully unloading the pistol, and then verifying the serial number. If you have a pistol within the recall range of serial numbers, follow this link. That will take you to the start of Springfield’s walk through to prep your gun to be sent back to the factory. The process will have you provide your name, email address, phone number, address, and the serial number(s) of the Springfield XD-S recalled pistol(s). If you prefer to go through the process over the phone instead, you can call Springfield at 800-680-6866.

What Happens Next

For any recalled XD-S pistols, Springfield will send a shipping label so that you can ship them to Springfield Armory for free. Once there, any Springfield XD-S recall pistols will be upgraded with new components and shipped back to you. They’ll also send you tracking numbers of shipped guns so you know where your guns are as they make their way out from and back to your FFL.

If you have any questions or concerns, check out the Springfield XD-S Recall Site, springfield-armory.com, or ring up the Springfield Call Center (800-680-6866).
