The 22 TCM TAC Ultra – First Look

Once upon a time I used to open gun magazines and I would glaze over the half dozen 1911 reviews for the few non 1911s in it. I gave up the gun mags a long time ago, but I carried my jaded internet gun writer grudge against 1911s for some time. I mean they aren’t bad guns, but how many different companies really need to make a single stack, 1911, 45 acp? More than I needed anyway. Now when a company does something different with the 1911 platform, and I mean truly different, I take notice. A feeling of warmth enters my soul. When I got the chance to try out the 22 TCM TAC Ultra I was absolutely thrilled.

The 22 TCM?

Yeah if you’ve never heard of this cartridge you might be a little confused. I plan to do a longer article about the round after I’ve had some more trigger time, but here is a brief rundown. Lets say you take a 22 caliber bullet, and neck a greatly shorten a 5.56 case for it. What do you get? A cartridge that leaves a 5 inch barrel at 2,000 feet per second. Yeah, its fast. More on the cartridge later though.

The Gun – The 22 TCM TAC Ultra

This isn’t a review, but I will say the gun seems to be incredibly well built, and pretty impressive. (So far.) I’ve only fired a few rounds form it, so I’ll save that for the end review. The 22 TCM TAC Ultra is a full sized 1911 that utilizes a double stack magazine. I guess it would be considered a 2011, but it’ll always be a 1911 to me.

Specs

Barrel – 5 inch
Capacity – 17 rounds
Weight (Unloaded) – 3 pounds
Width – 1.41 inches
Length – 8.5 inches

The 22 TCM TAC Ultra features a wonderful full length picatinny rail. The full length picatinny rail on a  1911 is something I love, especially on this gun. It really gives the gun a sleek and modern look. It’s half WW2 veteran and half Robocop.

The grip is thick due to it’s double stack nature. At the bottom you have a nice wide mag funnel. The grips are also outfitted with G10 grips and the gun has an ambidextrous safety. The rear sight is an adjustable LPA sight with a high viz fiber optic front sight.

The gun comes with a drop in 9mm barrel, and the magazines work with both the 22 TCM and 9mm. I’m really looking to get out on the range a bit more, and should be delivering you a review very soon. Watch this space.
