New Army M-4 Target: Dial in Your Optics for a Faster Zero

The Army has a new zero target which, according to initial reports, has decreased the number of rounds it takes to zero M-4 by 50 percent. The target uses a diamond shaped aiming point surrounded by concentric circles. It’s overlaid on a 1 Minute of Angle grid providing precise adjustments. Adjustments and offsets for common optics are printed on the back of the target. Most shooters can zero with three groups.
The old silhouette zero targets were designed for iron sights.  Imagine having a platoon of Soldiers with four different optics who had to qualify? Or a civilian with a new ACOG not sure how many click in an inch at 25 meters. Marksmanship is not the point of this target, it doesn’t make your groups tighter. Unlike the iron sights of the Greatest Generation, Soldiers now use a variety of optics and lasers with different heights and adjustment clicks. This target helps them click the right number of times for a precise movement of the point of impact.
The targets are available on heavy stock water proof paper from Rite in the Rain waterproof paper.  Shot groups tend to show up better on the Rite in the Rain paper, due to its heavier weight. As a bonus, you can zero in the rain without your target disintegrating.
