Adidas Terrex Scope GTX: Waterproof climbing shoes

January 6, 2019 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

Terrex Scope GTX

Approach shoes are a hybrid between a hiking shoe and a full-blown rock climbing shoe. Combining the grippy rubber sole, reinforced toe area and ample laces with a more conventional low top hiker.  Producing one of my favorite types of active footwear on the market. Not all manufacturers produce an approach shoe. But Adidas has boldly entered the segment with an athletic looking version called the Terrex Scope GTX.

Terrex Scope GTX

GTX, the acronym for Gore-Tex, makes the Scope GTX the top of the line offering from Terrex. When Adidas acquired Five-Ten (5.10), they implemented the uber sticky Stealth rubber from this iconic climbing shoe manufacturer into their Terrex line. And the Scope was one of the lucky recipients. Additionally, the toe cap is further reinforced with a durable rubber that mitigates impact while adding grip for rock climbing. Finally, a proprietary material called ADIPRENE (yellow area) makes up the supportive heel cushion. My Adidas golf shoes have ADIPRENE and I can tell you, they offer great support for all-day wear.

  • Rubber toe cap for protection while approaching or scrambling; Synthetic suede textile lining
  • ADIPRENE® under the heel for superior cushioning at impact
  • Stealth® rubber outsole provides unbeatable grip
  • MATERIAL: TEXTILE
  • WEIGHT: 8.6 oz (245 gm)

Several features make the Terrex Scope GTX a great choice for your next outdoor adventure. The overall athletic look of this shoe makes it look less like a traditional approach shoe. Making it a great low-vis selection. A Gore-Tex membrane offers versatility in varying weather conditions. Because no one likes wet feet. I used these shoes while hiking around the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The Stealth rubber sole was up to the task of crossing creeks and slippery rocks while we searched for waterfalls. The Scope GTX was equally superb on the dirt, rock trail and for minor climbing. All in all, the Terrex Scope GTX is a single shoe capable of many feats.
