Exotac titanLIGHT | Cleared HOT!

November 4, 2018 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

Exotac titanLIGHT | Cleared HOT!

Exotac is the result of combining a Purdue educated engineer and a true love for everything outdoors. Their vision is, “based upon designing extraordinary, high-quality and unique outdoor and urban gear“. It’s a no compromise operation when it comes to product design and manufacturing. And because Exotac keeps manufacturing to smaller production runs, they’re able to adapt and improve on the fly. Best of all, Exotac products are all made in the USA. The new titanLIGHT from Exotac is no exception.

Proudly made in the USA

To some people, carrying a lighter or some means of fire starting is a critical part of their Everyday Carry (EDC). As a non smoker, I typically don’t carry a lighter on my person. But you will find one in the console of my work truck, car, travel backpack, and in a pocket on my sea kayak PFD. Over the years I’ve gone through several good old fashion Bic and Zippo lighters, along with various butane torches. Although they all performed to one degree or another, none had all the attributes I was seeking. The rugged, waterproof titanLIGHT has become my clear favorite.

Precision machined from durable aluminum, the titanLIGHT has several unique features. First, it utilizes a standard Zippo type fuel that is housed in an O-ring sealed tank. Ensuring the lighter remains waterproof as well as preventing any fuel evaporation. Additionally, the titanLIGHT features air vents below the flame. These reduce wind disturbance and provide maximum protection against wind gusts. Finally, all the working parts like the wick, flint and O-rings can all be easily serviced with no tools. Making the titanLIGHT a lighter for life. And one you should seriously consider.

  • High-Spark flint wheel
  • Waterproof to >1 meter
  • 1-revolution quickTHREAD™ cap
  • Convection assist combustion
  • Machined aluminum construction
  • Easily replaceable flint
  • Lanyard attachment location
  • Flame guard
  • Lighter fluid not included
  • Made in the USA
  • MSRP $49.95

The old saying is true, “You get what you pay for”. While the titanLIGHT is not what I would consider inexpensive, I would consider it a good value. While I’m camping or kayaking, having a durable waterproof lighter than you can count on is paramount. And possibly the difference between life and death should things go sideways and I’m separated from my boat. So I’ve swapped out the Exotac MATCHCAP XL I used to carry in my PFD with the new titanLIGHT. Not because I can’t start a fire with matches. But because if I’m trying to start a fire with the fire starter I’ve tucked away in my PFD, something has gone horribly wrong. And I’m not taking any chances.
