Surefire 6PX Defender

June 7, 2016 by Scott Witner Leave a Comment

Surefire 6PX Defender

Have you been looking for flashlight that is simple to use, reliable in all weather conditions, and doesn’t break the bank? Well look no further than the Surefire 6PX Defender.

I’ve used other flashlights in the past; Mag lights, Streamlight, and Fenix, but always seem to come back to the Surefire 6PX Defender for several reasons.

1. Single Output – 320 lumens –  Most “tactical” flashlights on the market have several different modes on them and default to the lowest output. In a high stress situation I want to have the high beam NOW and not have to cycle through different modes to get to it. the 6PX has a momentary on or always on, but regardless it’s 320 lumens.

2. Serrated Strike Bezel – It’s kinda obvious as to what this would be used for. I’ve heard arguments in the past about flashlights with serrated strike bezels and how they aren’t effective due to the fact that they don’t inflict deep tissue damage. The point of the strike bezel is not to inflict deep tissue damage; it’s used to hit the bad guy and inflict enough pain to create a reactionary gap so you can either run or transition to a sidearm or blade.

3. Grip – the length of the grip on this light is enough for a very secure full hand grip. I prefer to have a flashlight that I can get all four fingers around as apposed to smaller lights that just don’t feel natural in the hand. It’s kind of like a knife or handgun; if it doesn’t feel right in the hand it doesn’t end up getting used.

4. Pocket Clip – Although the 6PX doesn’t come with a pocket clip you have the option of adding one. Raven Concealment Systems makes a clip specifically for the Surefire 6P series of lights. This clip in my opinion is better than any pocket clip that comes on other flashlight brands. this thing is solid and will not break off. It’s just as bomb proof as the Surefire flashlights. This pocket clip allows you to carry the flashlight in either your front pocket, rear pocket, or inside the waistband.

If I’m going to a movie theater, restaurant, store, or anywhere there is a possibility of either the lights going dark or some psycho shooting the place up this flashlight goes with me. If confronted with a threat in any one of those venues I have the confidence that I can deploy this light and buy a few seconds of time for myself and family to get to safety. It’s not the be all end all, but a few seconds can save your life and the lives of your loved ones.
