There has been quite a bit of buzz about the new models being introduced from Glock this year at SHOT Show 2014. As you can see in the video above, our editor had the opportunity to briefly evaluate and shoot the new guns.
Glock 41 Features
- As Robbie, a Glock representative, stated in the video, the new Glock 41 is “like the .45 version of the Glock 34.”
- It uses a Glock 21 frame with a lightened Glock 34 slide. Glock design engineers removed material from the rear and under the recoil assembly in the slide.
- Barrel length is 5.3 inches. The increased barrel and slide length contribute to increased accuracy and a reduction in muzzle flip and recoil.

Glock 42 Features
- .380 single stack , 6 + 1 capacity.
- Smallest Glock ever made.
- Designed to be comfortable to carry and shoot for extended periods.
My Final Thoughts
I have shot a Glock 17L before so I can appreciate the benefits of the longer slide and barrel. I personally would purchase one if I was a competitive shooter or was perhaps just looking for a longer sight picture. I wouldn’t carry the Glock 41 because I prefer something smaller and ultimately more concealable…which brings me to my thoughts on the Glock 42.
Personally speaking, when I heard about the new Glock 42 being conceal ready .380 pistol, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed that it wasn’t offered in 9mm. Judging from the buzz in the media room and comments in the video above, It would be safe to assume that this disappointment is not uncommon. One has to wonder why Glock decided to release a .380 pistol rather than a 9mm version. Which would you prefer, a .single stack Glock in .380 or 9mm?
