Kudos to the FBI. In spite of predictions of a Trump Slump in gun sales, those hard working clerks at the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) processed 203,086 background checks for gun purchases on Black Friday. This set a new single day record and shows the firearms industry is still vigorous.
Anti-gunners continue to call for background checks. These numbers should make them very happy. Look at all the legal gun owners complying with the law and proudly displaying their eligibility to purchase guns.
The two previous records also were recorded on Black Friday, 185,713 last year and 185,345 in 2015. Back ground checks are not a measure of actual gun sales because multiple firearms can be included on one transaction by a single buyer.
Gun sales have surged in recent years but many observers have predicted numbers flattening during the Trump administration. Recent problems at Remington and other manufacturers have been cited as evidence of recession in the industry.
While the market is saturated, the industry continues to innovate and develop accessories. With the new record, the hopes of the anti-gunners have been dashed again. The future is uncertain and markets will correct but the health of the firearms industry seems stable.
Great work everybody. Now lets get those guns set up for shooting and buy some ammunition.
