Hexmag Gen2: Get a Grip

Getting magazines you can depend on is no small task. There are as many opinions on magazines as there are opinions about guns. There are many good magazine manufacturers that make quality polymer magazines right here in America, but with a few differences here and there to set them apart. Hexmag is one of these companies who has entered the market with a magazine design that directly competes with all other polymer magazine manufacturers on the market. With their 2nd generation magazine now out, I am encouraged that they have what it takes to secure themselves as a unique and high quality AR Magazine manufacturer.

The first thing you notice about their magazine is the fact that it stays true to the name of the company, “Hex” as in hexagon. The pattern is all over the body of the magazine and it provides a good amount of traction for the user to handle them without worry of it slipping.

The texture on the spine of the magazine enhances the retention when handling. Though subtle, you notice the difference.

The overall thickness of the magazine body is much greater than your other more popular brands of magazines. This says to me that this magazine may prove to be capable of longer use in the hands of an abusive shooter.

From Left to Right: Troy, Hexmag, Lancer, Magpul

The second generation magazines have a slit on the side of the magazines cut out just for fitting on a stripper clip, which is a great addition in my opinion. Small details can have a profound effect in this case.

Hexmag also offers a couple of different items for you to customize your magazines like little hexagonal stickers for added traction on the body of your magazine.

They also offer different color feed ramps and base plates. These are mostly for caliber identification, but I use the bright orange feed ramps just so it is easy to see that I am almost out of ammo. I think it is better to just use the base plates for identification.

Not to mention that the magazine bodies come in different colors themselves.

For the price of around $12 on average online, Hexmag magazines come in at a slightly better price than their competitors. This is good for those of you looking for high quality magazines at a reasonable price but don’t feel like paying $15 or more for a magazine. Good to see another good magazine manufacturer on the market.
