U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., has sponsored the Collectible Firearms Protection Act, which could override the Obama State Department’s 2009 decision to block the importation of some 87,000 M-1 Carbines and M-1 Garand rifles provided to South Korea.
H.R.1137 – To amend the Arms Export Control Act to provide that certain firearms listed as curios or relics may be imported into the United States by a licensed importer without obtaining authorization from the Department of State or the Department of Defense, and for other purposes.
The bill still has a long way to go. It has been sent to the House Ways and Means and Foreign Affairs committees. If passed, it would allow similar importation of veteran firearms from Korea and other countries. Times are changing.
