The Crye AVS

July 24, 2014 by Jonathan Wade 17 Comments

The Crye AVS

I had the pleasure to review one of Crye’s newest creations, the Crye Adaptive Vest System, or AVS. The configuration was easy and the operator’s manual will help you make sure everything is setup properly. The Multicam fabric is great – we all know about Crye’s fabric quality – and the stitching is very well done. You can clearly see that it was made in the US – Brooklyn, NY to be exact.

The Crye AVS Detachable Flap, M4 makes it easy to fit in the M4 magazines - one per flap.

Once you’re properly kitted up, the Crye AVS is very stable, comfortable and gives you plenty of movement capability. I was not obstructed in any way when I wore it while firing my M4 and my 1911. The small loops stitched to the shoulder covers make it simple to keep the comms wires in place without obstructing you in any way.

The Crye AVS Mbitr Pouch is soft and the PRC-148 fits perfectly in it.

The Crye AVS Standard Plate Pouch Set gives you enough space to molle your gear on it without any issues. The M4 detachable flap is good for three standard M4 mags, and they fit well in them, so there’s no need to “break” them in! The AVS Mbitr Pouch is just big enough to fit the PRC-148 and keep it nicely in place.

The cummerbund attachment lays within the harness, giving you a snug fit while it keeps the vest in place. The attachment system is all Velcro which makes it easy to adjust quickly, and even when wearing gloves.

I asked a friend of mine who is a combat diver to try it out while I was taking Hi-Res pictures. His impressions were the same as mine – the  Crye AVS is an amazing vest that will keep you in the fight no matter the weather or environmental conditions.

The Crye AVS sits well and is fully adjustable.

Crye Precision has introduced the AVS on their website with the following statement.

Introducing the AVS™ – a revolutionary system that quickly configures as anything from a low-vis rig to a fully armored load-bearing vest… and everything in between. Changing calibers? Simply switch out your front mag panels. Switching load-outs? Quickly slide off your modular pouches without unweaving them. Shifting threats? Just add or remove armor panels without having to modify your gear load out. Varying missions? Configure it as a load bearing vest for recce work and switch right back to a fully-armored configuration with ease. Attach packs, zip-on rear panels, StKSS™ load supports, and many other accessories – the options are infinite.

The Crye AVS Operator’s Manual is available on Crye Precision website.

I would give the Crye AVS a 9.5 out of 10!
