This Tricked-Out Sharps Bros. Jack10 Turns Heads at the Range

Let me start by saying that although I built this Sharps Bros. rifle purposely for a review, it was destined to be a keeper. Therefore, all of the components were carefully chosen for their quality and utility. Additionally, I wanted to make sure they enhanced the badass appearance of the Jack10 upper and lower receivers.

Sharps Bros. has become well known in the AR world for its otherworldly lower receivers. CNC-machined from billets of 7075-T6 aluminum, Sharps Bros.’ lowers have magazine wells that look like warthogs, fighter planes and, in the case of the Jack series, skulls. While the company started with 5.56mm NATO AR lowers, it has expanded to include AK-47 receivers and even .308 Winchester/7.62mm NATO AR receiver sets. Which brings us to the heart of this build—the Jack10.

The Sharps Bros. Jack10 kit features billet-crafted upper and lower receivers. The heavily flared magazine well looks like a skull with some awesome-looking details. Another nice addition is the integral, oversized triggerguard. The flattop upper is streamlined and angular like other billet-crafted receivers. Both of these parts are tank tough and, all together, weigh about 25 ounces. Now came the fun part of building the gun.

Century Arms has released an American-made version of its Draco AK47 pistol to meet growing demand.

“The Romanian Draco Pistol imports have been infrequent due to Military and Government contracts at the Cugir factory,” said Jason Karvois, Century Arms’ Director of Sales. “Due to the popularity of the Draco pistol, and overwhelming demand, Century Arms has started to manufacture the Draco pistols at our Vermont factory to be able to consistently offer them to the U.S. market.”

Chambered in 7.62x39mm and based on the AK47 rifle design you know and love, the Century Arms Draco features a 10.5-inch barrel and weighs in at 6.3 pounds. It has an overall length of 19.5 inches and comes with a maple wood handguard, standard AKM sights and accepts any AK47 magazine or drum. Like we mentioned up top, it’s 100 percent made in the U.S.A.

The Draco offers rifle firepower in a small package, and it gets the job done in a variety of different scenarios, including close-quarters confrontations, as a trunk gun or a tool for some fun at the range.

Now shipping to dealers across the country, the U.S.-made Century Arms Draco AK47 pistol is available at a suggested retail price of $749.99.

Reporting for Duty: Sig’s P320 RX Full-Size 9mm Pistol

The world is changing before our eyes every minute of every day. New technologies propel industry forward with better efficiency, quality and end-user satisfaction. Having developed into somewhat of a curmudgeon by my late 20s, I have sometimes been dragged into accepting change for the past couple of decades. I’m one of those folks who usually likes the old ways better—such as cell phones with buttons, MP3 players just being MP3 players and typing search queries into a text box rather than calling out to an inanimate object on the kitchen countertop. I’m sure you can sense the irony.

No such hesitation exists, however, when it comes to the incredible advances made in the firearms industry. Granted, I, along with plenty of other folks, was dubious about mainstream polymer-framed handguns during their initial foray into the firearms industry. Those doubts quickly went away, and I learned my lesson. Now I’m proud to say that when I saw the introduction of the new Sig Sauer P320 RX, I was one of the first in line to try it out, and you might call me an early adopter. Baby steps.

The P320 RX is a new addition to Sig’s already popular line of pistols with polymer grip modules and interchangeable trigger control groups. Building on the success of the P320, Sig Sauer recently made some enhancements to the line, creating variants that are truly at home in a combat environment.

The main enhancement was the inclusion of a preinstalled reflex sight—Sig Sauer’s ROMEO1 model. The company’s second change was the incorporation of suppressor-height SIGLITE night sights that can be co-witnessed through the reflex sight’s optical window. But before we jump off into the deep end, let’s take a step back and survey the basic platform on which these changes were made.

Available in three models–the Adjustable LED, Dual-Illuminated (battery-free) and LED with aiming dot sizes ranging from 1.0 MOA to 13 MOA— RMR Type 2 deploys new electronics that bolster durability in harsh environments, the press release says. For the RMR models that require batteries, the new electronics design and battery contacts boost reliability under harsh use and recoil.

The RMR Type 2 includes a Button Lock Out Mode that stops accidental adjustments to your preferred brightness. Battery Conversation Mode adjusts the aiming dot to ambient lighting conditions after 16.5 hours without a button push for further extend battery life. Offering a bright illuminated aiming point for instant target acquisition under virtually any circumstances, the RMR Type 2 is parallax-free, meaning a simple “point and shoot” operation.

Constructed from 7075-T6 aluminum to MIL-spec standards, Trijicon’s RMR Type 2 is a rugged and durable reflex sight. Its patented shape absorbs impacts and diverts stresses away from the lens, the company says. Weighing just 1.2 ounces, it’s designed withstand hard use.

Meanwhile, the CR2032 lithium battery lasts up to two years in the LED model, and up to four years in the Adjustable LED variant at mid-setting. Audible windage and elevation adjustments allow for quick and easy zeroing with no need for special tools or devices. The RMR Type 2 is compatible with all existing RMR mounts and optics-ready pistols.

The Adjustable LED model is available for $699. The Dual-Illuminated version costs $577, while the LED variant retails for $649.

Silent-SR ISB: Ruger Rolls Out Integrally Suppressed Barrel for 10/22 Takedown

Silent-SR ISB: Ruger Rolls Out Integrally Suppressed Barrel for 10/22 Takedown

A year and change after introducing its first-ever suppressor, Ruger is at it again with its new Silent-SR ISB (Integrally Suppressed Barrel) designed for the 10/22 Takedown.

  • RELATED STORY: 20 AR Suppressors & Other Muzzle Devices on the Market

Quickly and easily assembled to any Ruger 10/22 Takedown or 22 Charger, the Silent-SR ISB sports an induction-hardened breech with a cold hammer-forged barrel for easy takedown and accurate return-to-zero. The ISB is touted as reducing sound pressure levels of .22 LR to a 113.2 dB average with standard velocity ammo.

Its 16.2-inch barrel length makes the Silent-SR ISB easy to handle, and the relatively long barrel — compared to other integral suppressors — means the bullet generates energy nearly equivalent to that of a 16″ gun for consistent and accurate performance on target. The pushed-cone baffle geometry has been stretched to utilize the volume under the barrel, maximizing gunshot suppression without disturbing the bullet’s travel, the press release says.
