Going hot testing the new 27 round Glock PMAG in the AR9

Going hot testing the new 27 round Glock PMAG

We are going hot today testing the new 27 Round Glock PMAG in the AR9. After running 21 round Pmags I figured why not give these 27 rounders a shot. The Pmag looks cool hanging out of the AR9 with the Reaper Z GunSkin and looks straight gangster in the Glock 19. This 27 round mag would definitely qualify as an “extended clip”.

When I first got the magazines it was tough getting all 27 rounds loaded, but after a few mag dumps, they worked themselves in. I only had one malfunction with the AR9 in my review but I don’t fault the magazine for that. It worked great in the Glock 19 but it changed the weight distribution of the gun. That doesn’t matter when you look cool though, and it’s all about looking cool. I would definitely recommend the 27 round Pmag for fighting zombies.

Magpul product release: Magpul PMAG D-50 LR/SR GEN M3

Magpul product release: Magpul PMAG D-50 LR/SR GEN M3

The Magpul PMAG D-50 is a rugged, lightweight, and reliable 50-round polymer drum magazine designed for 7.62×51 NATO/.308 Winchester ammunition for SR25/M110 pattern rifles. It’s capable of using longer-than-SAAMI-spec match ammunition, up to 2.830” OAL, such as M118LR. Engineered to the same exacting standards as the famous Magpul PMAG and PMAG D-60 drum magazines, the D-50 continues the PMAG tradition of high-capacity performance and dependability.  In addition, the D-50 brings GEN M3 features, which means enhanced strength, durability, and reliability. A ratcheting loading lever removes spring tension, making the D-50 easily loadable by hand. An anti-glare translucent window on the rear of the drum makes for quick positive visual indication of remaining ammunition. Additionally, the D-50 can be disassembled quickly with a simple flat blade screwdriver, and a has a dot matrix pattern that allows for easy marking and identification. At approximately 1.5 lbs. empty, and 4.5 lbs. loaded, the Magpul D-50 is one of the lightest 50-round 7.62×51/.308 drums available and is priced well below current competition. Designed specifically for 7.62×51 NATO/.308 Winchester ammunition and use with other calibers such as .260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmoor is not recommended.

Magpul DAKA Everyday Wallet: Keep the essentials, ditch the rest

I ditched my oversized wallet years ago and have never looked back. At first, I faced the slight panic of letting go of the 2-inch stack of junk I had accumulated in my old wallet, but as time went on I realized I didn’t miss it as much as I thought I would. Slim wallets are the only way to go, in my humble opinion. Keep the essentials, ditch the rest.

The Magpul DAKA Everyday Wallet is a great option for a great price. It is constructed of a reinforced polymer fabric that is flexible and strong. It is coated with an anti-slip texture that ensures you can easily retain it. The wallet holds up to 7 cards comfortably and features an ID pocket on the front with a transparent window to display your driver’s license, business card, or library card. The edges of the wallet are made using a welding process of the materials, so there is no chance of it separating under normal to heavy use.

Magpul DAKA Everyday Wallet: Keep the essentials, ditch the rest

The divider pocket in the center for bills and other items is easily accessible and functional, unlike some wallets that don’t flex enough for your fingers to be able to catch what you are trying to retrieve. No chance for wallet-hoarding or the uncomfortable experience of sitting on a wallet with too much stuff in it. This wallet is no-frills, discrete, and EDC approved. The only thing missing is RFID blocking capability. If you are interested in picking one up, head over to the Magpul website and choose between four colors – black, FDE, stealth gray, and olive drab green. MSRP is $24.95.

ADVERTISED FEATURES:

  • Windowed ID pocket
  • Center divider pocket for bills and notes
  • 10% larger than the Magpul DAKA Essential Wallet and holds 3-7 cards comfortably
  • Slim profile eliminates printing
  • Suitable for EDC and travel
  • Welded construction creates permanent impenetrable seals

Magpul Daka pouch is now part of my medical loadout

Magpul Daka pouch is now part of my medical loadout

It seems like I’m never done ‘dialing in’ my gear. I’m always looking for better-streamlined ways of setting up my gear so that I can access it quickly when needed. Most importantly my medical gear. When it comes to medical emergencies, seconds count when first responders are minutes away. That’s why we, the capable citizens, need to step in and fill that void. Be ready and capable to react to a bad situation. For a while now I’ve carried both the mini trauma kit and first aid kit from Dark Angel Medical. Nothing wrong with those kits, they are great kits, but I’m constantly evolving my gear and that sometimes means changing things up. That’s where my medium sized Magpul Daka pouch comes into play. I’ve actually had it for a while, but never really found a dedicated use for it. Until now.

So to set the stage for why I moved to the Daka pouch, let’s talk about the backpack I use daily when I do commute to somewhere to work. I’ve been through many packs and have always gone back to the Camelbak Urban Assault pack. It’s not set up or designed to be a hydration pack, but to be an EDC bag for the digital nomad and it excels at that. I’ve done a few ‘one bag’ trips using only this backpack and it has never disappointed.

The front of the backpack has a vertical slip pocket, which is where I have kept the Dark Angel medical kits for fast access. They typically would just ride in the bottom of the slip pocket and I would just need to reach in and pull them out. After taking a closer look at the size the medium Daka pouch with regards to the size of the vertical slip pocket, the wheels started turning. Take a look at the video for a better look at what I mean and what medical supplies I choose to carry inside the Daka pouch.

The Magpul SGA Stock and Pump – Long Term Review

My Remington 870 Wingmaster has seen a lot of abuse. It’s an older shotgun with a lot of character if you will. I never felt updating this little gun from the standard Remington polymer stock and the pump was necessary, but I was curious about Magpul made shotgun gear and the Magpul SGA series of furniture was affordable enough to give it a go. I’ve been using this particular setup for over a year now and it’s been abused, as well as painted. That’s not a stock getup, but a paint job from myself using AT Armor’s Rhodie paint kit.

Is the SGA Kit Worth the Hype?

It’s not a secret that Magpul makes everything for the AR 15 platform. From stocks to handguard and even small parts like trigger guards it’s not hard to Magpul out a rifle. They are also able to do this at a very affordable cost and provide a very high-quality product. The SGA furniture is no different.

The Magpul SGA Stock is a bit of a cross between your standard straight shotgun stock and a 90-degree pistol grip stock. The idea was to combine the merits of both into one design. The Magpul stock has a quick downward turn in the pistol grip that allows you to grip the gun almost like a pistol grip shotgun. This increases control and allows both the rear and forward arm to support the weight of the weight. A standard stock puts most of the weight on the off hand.

The Magpul SGA Stock also allows me to hold the weapon with one hand comfortably while using my other to accomplish secondary tasks. I can hold the weapon ready to fire as I open a door, reach for a tool, or were to answer a radio call.

The LOP of the stock can also be adjusted via spacers to go from 12.3 to 14.3 inches. 12.3 is quite short and formal average sized folks is perfect when running a tactical vest or plate carrier. There is also plenty of space for adding sling keepers. The stock has a built-in rear keeper for running a sling through.

What About the Pump?

The pump is textured for a good grip, has a small built-in handguard, and is outfitted with M-LOK slots to attach accessories to. The slots are at the 6, 3, and 9 o’clock positions. The utilization of this system allows you to attach lights, foregrips, handguards, and more in a very seamless way. It offers a full grip that allows you to really ratchet down on the pump and work it like you mean it.

Overall the Magpul SGA furniture is well made and plenty modern. It’s built to last and is rock solid in terms of dependability and strength.

Where Lead Hits Steel

Modern design doesn’t mean much if the gear just doesn’t work. Luckily, Magpul has come through with making the furniture work as good as it looks. The stock is massive and 1.5 inches wide across the rear. This size makes it easy to mount the shotgun correctly as well as disperse recoil through the shoulder. The stock is equipped with a thick recoil pad that makes it pretty solid when it comes to round after round of 12 gauge.

The stock is quick and easy to mount and jamming it into your shoulder and bringing it to your cheek is intuitive and easy to do. You can add a cheek riser if you choose, but I don’t find it necessary.

My preference for fighting recoil is to push forward with the pump and pull rearward with the stock. The SGA stock and pump make it easy to exercise this technique. The stock’s unique pistol grip allows you to get a solid grip on the gun and pull it rearward easily, and the textured pump makes it easy to push forward.

Boomstick Time

All my time with a shotgun has made me quite recoil resistant, and proper technique and of course a good stocks makes a big difference. I couldn’t possibly count just how many rounds me and this gun have been through together. For this review, I took out 25 rounds of full powered buckshot and a hundred rounds of Wally World birdshot and let it rip.

After the shooting, my shoulder never felt abused and used. The SGA furniture distributes recoil and allows for good technique. The crossover pistol grip the SGA stock utilizes is very nice for running reloads. It allows me to confidently keep the gun up and ready. The stock even aids in engaging with one hand. Should the lull in combat end in the middle of my reload I can fire a shot one handed with decent accuracy and good control. The gun isn’t going to get off target or create a risk of harming me or another.

The pump allows for easy accessorizing, and excellent control over the gun. The pump is slightly longer than a standard pump. This creates a shorter length of pump. Ultimately it means people with shorter arms will have an easier time manipulating the weapon. It’s longer but isn’t long enough to block the use of a side saddle.

All together the Magpul SGA Furniture is well built and well thought out. They are a great addition to any combat shotgun, but unfortunately, you’ll only get this furniture from Remington 870s and Mossberg 500s. This will not fit on the Logic Industries 80 lower shotgun even though it does take most Mossberg accessories.
