The new Kershaw Boilmaker EDC knife

The new Kershaw Boilmaker EDC knife

Two things stood out to me when I first saw the new Kershaw Boilermaker folding knife. The modified drop point blade, the finish of the knife and how sterile it was. The first two are obvious, but you may be wondering what I mean by sterile. What I mean is the lack of markings and branding. Aside from saying Kershaw on the pocket clip and some very small markings on one side of the blade, there is nothing else interfering with the aesthetics of the knife.

Overall this has got to by one of my favorites by Kershaw and will surely enter the rotation of knives I use for EDC. Check out the following video for a closer look.

Boilermakers are known for their skill at metalwork. So Kershaw and Les George took inspiration from their craftsmanship to build the new Boilermaker. This all-stainless-steel folder is designed to perform well in the hands of any tradesman—and anyone else who wants a distinctive, yet practical, pocketknife. – Kershaw

Zero Tolerance 0920 Takes Legendary Les George Harpy to Wider Audience

Zero Tolerance 0920 Takes Legendary Les George Harpy to Wider Audience

Last year when Zero Tolerance and maker Les George collaborated on the ZT 0900, a knife based on his Mini Harpy design, fans wondered if a production version of the full-size Harpy would follow. At SHOT Show 2017 the team delivered with the ZT 0920, which brings the elusive Harpy design to a wider audience as a high-end hard use utility knife.

The Harpy has its origins in a prototype that George started working on in 2006. The first official Harpy debuted in 2011, and it has become one of the most sought-after custom knives ever since. To arrive at the 0920, Zero Tolerance replicated the unconventional 3.9-inch blade and mimicked the intricate pattern milled into the scales seen on George’s custom work.

George acknowledges that the aggressive styling and size will not suit all users’ tastes. “I think that it is a polarizing design. People will like it or not and I doubt we will see much middle ground,” he tells us. “Executing designs in a polarizing way is a strength of ZT. I think that they did a great job on that here.”

Transforming into a Velociraptor: The Les George Sabot

Transforming into a Velociraptor: The Les George Sabot

If you ever dreamt of becoming a dinosaur as a young boy, the time has come. As soon as I pulled the Les George Sabot out of its sheath I felt as though I had deadly talon attached to my hand. Not only does it resemble a talon in appearance but in sharpness as well, this knife could easily be used as a skinning knife or as a backup throat slitter if the time comes.

This knife boasts a 2 inch drop point blade putting it at an overall length of 4.3 inches. The blade is a sturdy .125-inch-thick stainless steel and the handle is just a little bit thicker measuring at .136 inches. There are notches along the spine that give it a nice grip on your thumb. The ring hole is a nice large size, big enough for me to fit any of my finger in.

The kydex sheath provides very nice tension and makes for an easy draw. It has 3 eyelets holding it together and is perfect for running 550 chord or a chain through for use as a neck knife. This is really the only way I can see it being effectively employed as there really is no way of mounting it otherwise.

The Les George Sabot is very durable and concealable. The whole package weighs in at an impressive 1.7 ounces. I really like this knife but it would definitely take some training to use effectively as a defensive knife. Most knife techniques won’t carry over to this knife but as a backup I’m sure you can figure it out on the fly. The only down fall to this knife is that there is no mounting ability, I wish they would offer the sheath with a metal belt clip or something of the sort.
