HSGI Taco Tuesday | Tasty in All Loadouts

February 21, 2017 by Loadout Room Guest Authors 1 Comment

If you haven’t heard of High Speed Gear Inc. by now and you call yourself a “Gear Queer” then you need to reevaluate your sources. I don’t know exactly when HSGI came out with their first taco but they sure did take the market by storm.

I’ve been running tacos ever since I discovered them, I was originally skeptical because usually in our line of work if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. HSGI has so many different tacos at this point you could find a taco for any application from tasers to mags to radios.

The benefit to the taco is that you can use just about any applicable magazine and still retain great retention with the adjustable shock chord. I have run both single and double stack mags in my “Double Decker” and it works amazing. The rifle pouch can accommodate anything from an AR-15 to a SCAR-17 to a M1A. they even offer a high cap taco for the Surefire 60 and 100. The shock chord is surprisingly resilient, as a Grunt I spent a lot of time in the prone and I never had any concerns with it cutting from the rocks, and I didn’t go easy on them.

The plastic inserts help to allow the mags to slide in and out smoothly and makes replacing the mags back in the pouch a breeze. The versatility of these things truly are amazing and it is only limited your imagination. I personally use an extended pistol mag taco as a carrier for my .45 suppressor when it isn’t attached to my p220.

The only negatives I have about this piece of kit are the mounting of these things via malice clips are a bit difficult, kinda makes my fingers hurt like the old grandma on Happy Gilmore. The second thing is the price point, you are looking at $34.00 for a single rifle mag, $27.00 for a single pistol, and $44.00 for a combination of the two called the Double Decker.

HSGI is one of my favorite tactical companies right now. Their products are versatile, tough, and sexy as hell. Be prepared to pay a pretty penny to retrofit your kit in tacos but you will be happy with it. Keep a look out for the gentlemen at HSGI, they are constantly coming out with new products that are at the top of the gear food chain. HSGI also offers padded belts, IFAKS (which I have also), leg rigs, chest rigs, and an array of other goodies.
