One of the advantages of getting selected for MARSOC or any other Top Tier military unit is the training you get exposed to. In this case, we’re going to take a quick look at one of the driving courses as well as some reactive shooting. Learning to drive like this can be beneficial to both the civilian world as well as when deployed in the military. Knowing the weight transfer of a vehicle will allow you to push the vehicle to the edge of its capabilities, whether that is in defensive driving as a civilian or losing a tail in a hostile environment.
The shooting courses these guys get exposed to are also more advanced than you would see in the ‘regular’ military units. In this video we see them running .25 second reaction shooting drills. Being able to run a drill in a sub 1-second time frame takes training and repetitive practice. In the last pistol course I took we practiced getting a round on target from retention in 1.5 seconds (that’s a tall order for most). We also practiced a drill using a shot timer to see how fast our hands could get to our pistol. Most guys were doing this in a quarter of a second. Our instructor kept drilling into us to ‘rep it out’. What he meant was to practice, practice, practice. The more reps you do will translate into muscle memory.
